New Year’s Honour for Spitfire Makers Patron, Mandy Singleton MBE!

We were delighted to hear that our joint-patron, Squadron Leader Mandy Singleton, has been awarded an MBE in the King’s first New Year Honours List.

Mandy has been appointed an MBE for her work as Senior Engineering Officer in the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. (She did this from September 2019 to November 2021.)

The appointment recognises Mandy as “a role model for all to aspire towards and she leaves a legacy of enhanced training, maintenance and air safety management which will endure far beyond her tenure. This has been an outstanding achievement over a period of national adversity, where she continually provided serviceable aircraft that had an impact on hearts and minds across the nation.

She overcame a vast range of historical aircraft challenges to inspirationally lead the Flight’s engineering team in delivering high pressure, time critical output with huge national significance throughout the COVID pandemic. Her efforts ensured aircraft were available to commemorate and celebrate over a difficult time for the nation, such as Captain Sir Tom Moore’s 100th birthday, the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe and Japan Days, and the funeral of Dame Vera Lynn.”

CONGRATULATIONS MANDY! Well deserved!

Mandy gave her reaction as follows: “Absolutely delighted to have been appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in His Majesty The King’s first New Year’s Honours list. The appointment recognises my leadership and professionalism while I was the Senior Engineering Officer on the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF).

I feel truly humbled and I’m glad that my approach to air safety and training excellence will have an enduring impact on what is a remarkable organisation.”

She added, “This appointment reflects the hard work and success of the entire team and all of those that support the Flight.”

Since November 2021 Mandy has continued to support the BBMF as a member of the Flight’s PR Team which attends major air shows and events around the country to be the public face of the BBMF, to promote engineering, the RAF and an interest in historic aircraft. She is also a keen skier, snow-boarder and mountaineer.
