Peartree 400

A Southampton Heritage Open Day – 18th September 2021

Spitfire Makers were delighted to be able to join the Peartree 400 celebrations. Delayed by a year due to the Covid 19 pandemic restrictions, the event celebrated 400 years of Peartree Church in Bitterne, Southampton. Built after the Reformation in 1618 and consecrated in 1620, it is the oldest Anglican church in the world.

Spitfire Makers joined other local heritage groups to celebrate the anniversary at an open day organised by the church and the Southampton Heritage Federation.

Our stand was very well supported and, as always, we held our ” Guess the Number of Spitfire Rivets ” in the Jar competition. The prize was a signed copy of “The Spitfire Kids” book and it was won by a young man named Charlie. Well done Charlie!

Charlie received his prize from Alan Matlock who went through some of the stories with him.

Thanks to Robert Stidworthy for the fantastic photos of our stand.
