Southampton to the East of the River Itchen

Requisitioned sites

Itchen Works Air Raid Shelters. “Two pieces of land at Itchen”. Land, liable to flooding, filled with bombed building rubble and level raised. Open space for recreation and local nature reserve below Pear Tree Green.

Newtown Works. Southern Joinery Co. (Electric Works) Requisitioned and subcontractor. Woodmill, woodwork. Off Botley Road, Hightown. Joinery workshop continued producing doors, window-frames etc. Residential development at end of Botley Gardens, Sholing, Southampton. SO19 0NT

Weston Works. Rolling mills for copper sheeting to make small artillery and naval shell cases. Partly occupied for copper-smithing facilities. Demolished and land used for housing and Weston Shore pitch and putt golf course, Southampton. SO19 9SH
