Walk the Woolston Spitfire Trail with Alan Matlock
Up to five spaces are available to join chair, Alan Matlock, on the next of his guided walks around the Woolston Spitfire Trail: Monday, 1st June, starting at 10.30 am.
Alan will explain the history of the Supermarine company; its development, guided by the design and engineering genius of RJ Mitchell; the bombing of the factories in September 1940, and the subsequent dispersal of production across Southampton and beyond.
We will see at least 5 of our commemorative blue plaques placed at Supermarine-related locations along Hazel Road. These mark the places where hundreds of Spitfire Makers worked, and where some of them died.
Alan’s talk will be illustrated with period photographs and enlivened by first-hand accounts of those who lived through these vital years in the history of the country and the rest of the world.
Please email Alan at spitfiremakersresearch@btintenet.com
